***Selfie in the car, suited up with my Kendrick Lamar CD***
“The caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived it”……. Forget the Cocoon, jump the comfort zone and bully the status quo as we go on a living spree…
As part of #blackbutterflythursday this weekly series is more of an adventure challenge to everyone reading this, its about getting outside your comfort zone, meeting new people, doing new daring things and going on a journey of self discovery more than it is about the Kendrick Lamar CD.
It’s about you the imagined caterpillar escaping your imaginary cocoon and letting your wings spread, we sometimes institutionalize ourselves, sell ourselves short and not fully appreciate the man in the mirror. Let go of all the negativity (mental slavery) and all that is not you and let thee be… P.S. don’t forget to bring some good music along the journey though….
As a pilot series it’s only fair to explain the concept in detail for me to get your buy in…..
But first, lets check out the Poem that Kendrick Lamar reads out loud to Tupac in the last track in the album.. “Mortal man”
“The caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived it
Its only job is to eat or consume everything around it, in order to protect itself from this mad city
While consuming its environment the caterpillar begins to notice ways to survive
One thing it noticed is how much the world shuns him, but praises the butterfly
The butterfly represents the talent, the thoughtfulness, and the beauty within the caterpillar
But having a harsh outlook on life the caterpillar sees the butterfly as weak and figures out a way to pimp it to his own benefits
Already surrounded by this mad city the caterpillar goes to work on the cocoon which institutionalizes him
He can no longer see past his own thoughts
He’s trapped
When trapped inside these walls certain ideas start to take roots, such as going home, and bringing back new concepts to this mad city
The result?
Wings begin to emerge, breaking the cycle of feeling stagnant
Finally free, the butterfly sheds light on situations that the caterpillar never considered, ending the eternal struggle
Although the butterfly and caterpillar are completely different, they are one and the same.”
Dope poem right? just as a little analysis, the question is, what are you a slave to? do you wanna break the mental chains locking you down and dragging you constantly to the ground? Genius level entails realizing that the ground is not your home, never limit your potential, you can be whatever it is that you wanna be, and always keep in mind that once you find your wings, give back, introduce new concepts and new ways to think when you go back to the Kasi…. If Randy Marsh from South Park can grow some wings, so can you…
On a more serious note, you were placed on this earth to be all you can be ‘like the reserves’…. follow me and many others as we strive to go from GOOD to GREAT as we venture out to this living spree…. Don’t forget to bring the music on the way.. and remember, you are more than what the environment labels you to be, you were born to AMAZE…
