The Millionaire That Shopped At Mr Price #MoneyMondays

What If I Told You He Is Worth 34.8 Billion US Dollars?

It’s all about staying grounded, being true to yourself and being humble. Consistency is one thing that pays off. If we were playing a game of spot the millionaire at a conference or lecture room, with my preconceived trend of thinking, I would look for the guy who is dressed the simplest, 8 times out of 10 I bet you money I would come out correct. Simplicity is sometimes the ultimate sophistication, simplicity is beautiful, looks effortless and can be contagious. Complex is ugly.

I’m sure you thinking millionaires in hoodies and Adidas sport sandals? what the fuck is he on about? Relax, I’ll make it work. Now this article was inspired, or rather influenced by the ‘organised hate’ traits that South Africa is quickly embracing. Just take a look at twitter, take a look at our media, or just scroll down on any celebrity’s picture on Instagram and take a look at the comments. You would swear people have adopted hating as a profession. anyway middle finger to all the haters. Just the other day Cassper Nyovest posted a picture of himself wearing a fresh gear headed to an all white party.

“If She Say She Ain’t Never Shop At Mr Price She Ain’t Tailored For Me, Coz I Only Interact With Women As Genuine As Me”

Now being a simple person like myself who gives no thought of what people think of me, most of my actions are internally influenced and thus I’m able to quickly ridicule marketing schemes that try to get me to buy R5oo t shirts. The top that Cassper has on in the picture is from Mr. Price, as spotted by one of his followers and the immediate commentary to his choice of attire was shocking. “you have so much money, why do you wear Mr Price clothing?” and his simple reply was

“I’ve been wearing Mr Price since high school. why should money change me? I can afford anything I want , it’s about style , not price”

It’s this type of thinking that makes a young country humble and patriotic, we South Africans are a bunch of non loyal and misguided individuals. You don’t believe me? take a look at our lifestyle; we prefer German Cars mostly, pride ourselves in having Gucci and all this other fancy clothes. We buy any dream that’s sold to us by Americans and we adopt whatever they sell to us.

I feel like, dressing simple makes you easily relatable and also allows you to be humble and be yourself. Now get me right, if you are genuinely a person who always wanted and liked tailored clothing and can afford it yourself, that is okay, the problem arises when you do it to try fit in and impress a crowd, even more embarrassing and stupid is when you do it on credit and you already shoulder deep in debt with a zero balance on your savings account.

People with priorities, genius individuals almost always realise that they only have themselves to please, once you start allowing the external environment to filter through into your financial set up, then you will constantly become entrapped in the never ending cycle of debt, living on a month to month salary, having already made your future self broke (at this point, having done this, the future will almost always look blurry and depressing). Individuals who are committed to their commitments realise at an early age that somethings are more important than others.

Every Monday on Genius Level is dedicated to Money, wealth, Investments, Savings and all things Financially Value Adding. Check us out each Monday for inside on how to not make your future self a financial slave and start using your money wisely.
