“A photograph shouldn’t be just a picture, it should be a philosophy.” Amit Kalantri
If I was poetic the post would start with something like this:
From the concrete who knew that a flower would grow? They say pictures tell a million stories, I’ve been knowing Neto to take at least a 100 pictures a day. In a month’s time we’d be conversating over a billion captured stories. Who better to turn a congested dirty looking taxi rank into a million colours of perfection. Vision so articulate it refines crude moments turning them into priceless heart warming frozen memories.
Portraits of pleasant faces that restart the longing process. Telling untold stories through his pictures he has become one of thee most talented individuals I know; armed only with natural talent and drive, his vision is to capture and share with the world which that only the privillaged get to see. It is through individuals like Neto that the souls of great photographers like Kevin Carter live on.
“Nostalgia – it’s delicate, but potent. In Greek, “nostalgia” literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel (Neto Photography)”. It lets us travel the way a child travels – around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved.” “Mad Men” The Wheel (TV Episode 2007)
Kgomotso ‘Neto’ Tleane, born in Alexandra township during the Inkata Era, got raised in a small village called Ga-Maja just out of Polokwane, and eventually moved to Gauteng like everyone else in search of the never ending gold that’s in this city, being fresh out of high school, naive and confused as to what Career path I’d Love to pursue, I found myself studying LLB at UJ, at this point in my life photography was nothing of value for me, no interest for the craft had developed as yet.
I guess the passion for photography was inspired by my everyday life, my surroundings, the faces I see every day around me when I go to work or just walking around in the hood, I saw beauty everywhere, No matter how ugly things looked there always seemed to be some kind of Beauty beneath all the clutter, and unintentionally I’ve always been one to always try and find that beautyThe direction I took with photography was more street than anything, I literally bought a camera and started shooting, and what I love about this is that I get to capture real moments, nothing from the streets is rehearsed, everything I know about photography was picked up from the streets and I dubbed what I do as “My 3rd Eye View Photography” seeing that people get to see the world through my eye, my 3rd eye.
