The department of health is trying but it is not enough, can we stop being cool and consider what is at stake here? The rate of babies being breastfed is still low; this is beside the numerous attempts by the government to emphasize how important it is to do so. The government can only do so much in this case, yes they have to make the hospitals and clinics breast feeding friendly but above that we have an ‘attitude’ problem towards breastfeeding.
We are a fast paced generation; we buy ready-made foods that just need to be placed in a microwave for 5 minutes before serving. We also have style and a lot of money and that often deters our decisions because to us money means class and standard and ordinary natural practices like breast feeding are not packaged as such, this drives young mothers into feeding their babies tin milk regardless of the 3 page warning on the milk container and you still ask yourself why they insist on such.
Breastfeeding is safe for the new born, besides boosting the immune system of the child so it can be stronger and resist diseases, it also helps the baby develop faster, be smarter and less problematic. The high rate of infant deaths can be reduced if mothers who produce milk can just breastfeed their babies.
