Does whiteness validate blackness??
I am a proud Pro-black, I believe in black excellence, I believe in black intellectuals and heroes. Sometime that require me to even endorse or celebrate people I differ in ideologies with, I never shoot down black excellence even when doing so will benefit me.
I have a problem with what this country has become, the continued and maintained insinuation that Mmusi Maimane is nothing but a puppet suggests two things about black people in general. When in a pool of dominantly white people they can only make it on the mercy of a white man, and black man is inferior in intellect and leadership and to a white man he is just a little black charity case.
Differences aside, have we ever given it a thought that maybe this man made it to that position based on merits, he made it there because he is a capable leader and not some PR stunt to lure in black voters like many people suggest. We are running a risk of looking at any black man we don’t agree with as a puppet, this then makes it impossible for us to celebrate black excellence. South Africans you never cease to shock me, you are forever talking about decolonization of the mind but when it’s time to celebrate the progress you check which side of the fence this progress happening.
I am waiting for you to tell me about a black CEO in a multi-billion company that thousands of white people would love to chair, tell me they are also seated in that position because they are black and the company can use a poor black face. Tell me that the Phangiso Rabada’s and Brian Habana’s of this country are not good enough. We need to start celebrating black excellence or our kids will grow up knowing that in the face of whiteness, blackness is never good enough.
