The year is 2052, and Sipho steps up to the front of his 9th grade class to present his history project.
“My presentation today will speak about the FeesMustFall movement. FeesMustFall movement gripped South Africa in the year 2015. Led mainly by Chumani Maxwele and ANC SASCO cohort, it quickly spread to other parts of the country. This movement was encouraged and supported by ANC most specifically the then minister Hon. Blade Nzimande.
The dynamic (cis het) black male leadership were not just for Education, but opposed rape culture too. At Rhodes University, they took to the streets naked to protest rape-culture. Continuously, they tried involve women and the Queers however they were comfortable with the status quo. The cis het had to do it themselves, under the leadership of Maxwele who insisted on Intersectionality. I’m fact, he coined the term after a brutal anti Black male encounter with one of the Queers and the then chairperson of the We Look Up To White Women (WLUTWW) club, Wanelis Xaba. She had insisted that BLACK patriarchy is the roof of evil and that everyone was free. Maxwele then insisted that all struggles are equal and important. Intersectionality was born.
The ANC consequently made strategic moves to support the movement to realize free Education.
I am honoured to be part of the legacy of #FeesMustFall. ”
Teacher: Thank you Sipho. Please remind Ms. Pongwane that your school fees is due next week. Great presentation!
