I still remember the competition slash gamble we used to play after school with our toughies shoes on. Whoever can topple another’s tazo by hitting it over the top so that it flips wins. I used to be too buck at that game. I used to win so many tazos from my friends I swear they also still have flashbacks of my Ash tazo and the King Ki tazo that used to sweep away all the other tazos.
Then one day after a game that I had won my mom called us to the front of the house as we had been playing by the back of the house. We get to the front and mom and her friend from work are reaching over for me to give them the tazos. They had this extreme look of determination…
I do so and immediately they sit us down and tell us how they had been told that these things are evil and demonic and how we ought to get rid of them or burn them. WHAT???
Of course my mom knew that if she threw them away I would find them! She knew how much I loved my tazos!! So just by the small gate outside the yard she burnt them in full sight of my friends and I. Even the neighbour’s cat bore witness to these mass killing of my tazos. The cat looking at us somehow erupted in them a need to highlight that black cats are also suspect of being evil and thus seeing this black cat starring they cunningly managed to link up these two events.
I was the first to fall from my friends… But I wasn’t the last, all of them fell after that!!
The mothers had waged war against the black child’s happiness all because of someone who had nothing to else better to do, so they decided to scare the pillars of the black community so as to start trouble – heaven knows why.
Summoning monsters to do your bidding, recording their names in strange electronic tomes, holding millions of children in its thrall — is it any wonder the Christian community thought Satan might have had something to do with Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z’s popularity?
Still don’t understand how pocket monsters and religion can clash, and it’s quite a few times, really. When an entertainment property becomes as big as Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z was around the turn of the millennium, religion enthusiasts tend to keep an eye out for signs that everything might not be on the up-and-up.
The church has always been guilty of making up numerous superstitions that always prove ridiculous in the end. But no one says a things – But I digress
I still have flash blacks of my mom killing off my childhood happiness. I still think of all my tazos and how they were taken away from me. In my late 20s don’t you dare ask me why I’m sad and depressed when you clearly know how part of my childhood got ruined by ridiculous tittle-tattles.
