Personal Success is possible without the overrated university degree
The book is titled “Un-school Me” and its written and self published by Tumelo Liondancer Marweshe, it is about criticising the institutionalised education in the country and suggesting alternative methods to developing people instead of subjecting them to predetermined tests and grading systems.
The book takes a brief tour in to the life of the author from the day he was introduced to the education system up until he graduated at higher level, at the same time analysing the critical points that cause conflict due to the nature of the institutionalised education system, the author places a main emphasis on the behaviour of students against the institutionalised education system, and the results it produces for those students who fail to memorise literature taught to them.
The author also places great emphasis on believing that part of the reason we live in a society that lacks creativity and independence is because children are subjected to subjects of no interest from the day they are introduced to schooling until the day they are employed, part of the reason the country is under a high rate of unemployment and poverty.
The book clearly states that education is not discouraged but more focus should also be placed on self-education, and personal growth for ultimate success. This book also criticizes institutions with the author believing that old, obsolete material is taught to students in an ever fast changing information world; today’s institutionalised education still focuses on materials developed during the industrial age whereas we are in the information age, the ages of advanced technology that requires no rigorous literature to master.
As Peter Drucker once stated “Since we live in an age of innovation, a practical education must prepare a man for work that does not yet exist and cannot yet be clearly defined.” Yet today’s education continuously prepares a man for work that has long passed its prime.
This is a must read for learners/students, parents, young employees and entrepreneurs.
