Employers are looking for a person with qualifications, you get that?
A good qualification will get you the interview. What happens after that rests solely on your personality. The list of job requirements informs you that the qualification is just as important as all the skills and attitudes listed in the aptitude requirements. Let’s be straightforward about this one, you are going to need that “desirable” personality to get that job you want.
You can sweat through your schooling and university years only to graduate with a good qualification but no character to match it, this will create a challenge for you when you enter the job hunting world. Like it or not good marks can only get you a point closer to the job, that is precisely the reason why you have to go for an interview, where your personality will give you a competitive advantage. You might lie about your communication skills on paper, or your ability to cope under pressure but these can easily be observed during a one on one session.
A friend of mine once asked me why students don’t pay it forward, that is one of the best ways that they can actually develop their personality, things like extra activities, and engaging with genius experienced individuals who will prepare you for situations you may never have imagined. He stated that getting a mentor is one of the best ways to go about this, because when you finally sit on that chair that is often the last thing between you and your dream job, your personality is either going to carry you through or let you down.
The question is what can you do to develop that character? I say just increase your interaction with the world around you. Take your time and get yourself a mentor, I know getting a mentor is not like buying bread but in due time it would help you to get yourself a mentor in your field of interest.
